In
this small masterpiece of body ornamentation embossed on a sheet
of gold, the head of a bird of prey surrounded by serpents juts
out with its protruding platinum beak. The conception of the motif,
whose symbolism may relate to the dual nature of heaven and earth,
is as remarkable as the technique employed by Tumaco goldsmiths.
