The
concept of transformation, of fundamental importance in the cosmologies
of contemporary American indigenous peoples, can
be clearly seen in Tumaco art in the way human and animal features
are combined. Both the imposing gold mask and the body of the
ceramic container represent human heads with threatening jaws
for a mouth, with protruding fangs.
