Hammered, embossed objects with schematic designs are characteristic of “late” Quimbaya metalwork art, contemporary with the arrival of the Spaniards in the sixteenth century. In this example, birds and spirals are placed inside four quadrants, as part of some sort of mysterious symbolism.
