As of this coming 15th of November,
the Gold Museum will have its exhibits on show temporarily in
the Art Museum of the Banco de la República while the
traditional building in front of the Parque Santander, downtown
in Bogotá, is remodelled. The regular site will be closed
to the public after October 23rd, 2007.
Clara Isabel Botero, Director of the Gold Museum, stated: The
Banco de la República is very committed to the public
and while the final phase of the great transformation of the
Gold Museum is completed and the Museum is reopened in
the second half of 2008 we will offer our local and international
visitors an exceptional sample of our collections in the Art
Museum of the Bank, on Calle 11.
This temporary exhibit will include an exceptional selection
of the most important pieces from the Gold Museum of the Banco
de la República; objects representing all the cultures
and periods portraying the development of the societies which
worked with metals in the Colombia of pre-Hispanic times, approximately
500 A.D. until the Spanish conquest.
The masterpieces of the collection to be exhibited in the Art
Museum include the Quimbaya Poporo,
the Winged Fish and an exceptional
Calima Snail.
The traditional premises of the Gold Museum, at Calle 16 and
Carrera 5 will provide restricted services in the Offerings
Room which may be visited subject to prior inscription.
The Gold Museum, at its temporary premises on Calle 11 will
be open to the public from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m.
to 7:00 p.m. (closed on Tuesdays), and on Sundays and Holidays
from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The entrance is free.

on Tuesdays)
