Pre-Hispanic goldwork objects were more than mere ornaments, they were symbols of the religion of pre-Hispanic indigenous groups: shamanism.

The exhibition room on the third floor of the new Gold Museum deals with the meaning of this religious art, in a semi-dark environment where six cylindrical showcases connect heaven and earth. The Muisca Raft, the object which symbolises the El Dorado myth and ceremony, introduces the subject of the offering that was made by the chieftain or the shaman in order to encourage or restore equilibrium in the world.

At the end of the tour, someone will stop you and ask you to wait. When a wall opens up, you will witness a son et lumière performance that will become engraved in your memory. Neither the website nor the most sophisticated computer screens will be of any use for describing or telling what you will feel when you visit the actual Museum. Don't miss coming and discovering it!

Then, a Study Room gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy the video Poporo, made in 2004 by artist Luis Cantillo, who was inspired by the objects in the Museum. This digital art work won first prize in the IDB Biannual Video Art Exhibition in Washington, and second prize in the 2004 FILE Festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The Museum's website can also be consulted and shortly the database too, which contains full information about the different objects in the collections.
