During the year 2001, foreign
investment in Colombia reached US$2.0 billions with a US$414 million (m) decrease with
regards to the registered in the same period of the previous year. This result is due to
the reduction of direct investment flows (-US$1.3 billion), partially compensated by the
increase in the investment of the petroleum sector (US$953 m). Direct investments which
registered the higher decreases between 2000 and 2001, were financial sector (-US$580 m),
manufacturing (-US$452 m), transports and communications (-US$359 m) and mining and
quarries (-US$131 m). On the other hand, portfolio investment registered net capital
outflows of US$41 m, while one year behind, net incomes were US$17 m.
