Foreign trade - Imports

In the year 2001, FOB imports increased in US$1.2 billions (11.4%), from US$10.8 billion in 2000 to US$12.0 billion in 2001. The sectors that presented higher growth rates were the manufacturing sector products (US$1.2 billion), especially metallic products, machinery and equipment, chemicals, nourishing products, beverages and tobacco. The agricultural and mining external purchases registered a growth of US$36 million (m) and US$1 m, respectively, while oil and derivatives fell down by US$52 m. By economic use and allocation, the imports behavior was due to the growth in external capital goods purchases (US$1.0 billion), being outlined those of transport equipment. To a lesser extent, consumer goods presented a slight growth (US$330 m). On the contrary, the intermediate goods demand diminished in US$106 m. According to the geographical origin the Colombian imports were attended principally by the United States (41.2%), the European Union (15.0%), the Andean Community (10.2%) and Japan (3.7%)IMPORTS
