Foreign trade - Imports
During the first quarter of the 2001,
Colombian FOB imports grew at US$3.0 billion, a 13.8% (US$361 million) annual growth,
primarily as a consequence of the increase of industrial purchases sector (US$414 million,
18.2%), particularly, metallic products, machinery and equipment, chemicals, textiles and
leather. By economic use and allocation, the behavior of the imports was due the growth of
external purchases capital goods (US$193 million), particularly transport equipment and
capital goods for the industry. The intermediate and consumer goods also presented a
slight growth, US$88 million and US$80 million respectively. By geographical regions,
Colombian imports mainly came from the United States 36.0%, the European Union 15.9%, and
the Andean Group 10.9%, and Japan 4.4%.
