Economic Performance in the second quarter
of 2001
|
Preliminary estimation by National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) of
the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) annual growth up to the third quarter of 2001, was 1.4%.
Inflation measured as the Consumer Price Index (CPI) registered a value of 8.0% during the
year. The Producer Price Index (PPI) presented an annual growth of 8.0%, 4.9 percentage
points lower than the observed in the previous year. Unemployment remains high but
presented a slight decrease during the year. The current account registered a deficit due
to a fall in export with respect to September of 2000. This deficit was compensated by a
surplus in the capital account, which resulted in a positive variation in international
reserves. As a proportion of imports, reserves remained stable.
