The preliminary numbers show that
during the year 2001, the non-financial public sector of Colombia registered a deficit of
$7,126.8 trillion (3.8% of the GDP). This fiscal result was higher than that obtained the
non-financial public sector in the same period of 2000 which was $439,8 trillion (0.23% of
the GDP). In the 2001 the National Government increased its deficit in $10.8 trillion,
5.8% of GDP, while the decentralized sector registered surpluses, of 3.6 trillion. In this
last sector, surpluses of the social security are included, $1.088,6 trillion, as well as
of Ecopetrol, $778.7 trillion, and of the PSSF, (Petroleum Saving and Stabilization Fund),
which are included in the group of other entities.
