Exchange rate

The Market Exchange Rate (MER) in the first semester of 2001 was $2,305.66 pesos per dollar, registering during the year a nominal devaluation of 5.5% and 8.8% over twelve months. On the other hand in June 2001, the Real Exchange Rate Index (RERI) stood at 118.4, 1.2% lower than in December 2000, and similar than twelve months before. The real revaluation during the year is explained by an increase in the PPI higher than the increase in the nominal exchange rate.
