The year 2001 ended with a 7.65%, inflation, 1.1 percentage points lower than the registered in the year 2000, and 0.3 percentage points lower than the inflation goal fixed by the Banco de la República Board of Directors. The goods and services groups of major contribution to the total annual inflation registered the following annual growth prices: food 10.5%, transport 8.9%, housing 4.3% and other expenditures 7.6%. These groups explained the 81.9% of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) total variation of the year 2001. The annual variations of the remaining indices were: health 10.9%, culture and scattering 7.1% and wardrobe 2.6%. On the other hand, the Producer Price Index (PPI) presented a 6.93% annual growth, mainly explained by the agricultural product prices increase, 7.6%, and manufacturing 7.0%, while the mining product quotes registered a 1.3% reduction. According to the goods origin, the prices of the goods produced and consumed in the country were increased in the year in 7.7%, and the imported in 4.6%. With regard to the use or economic destiny, the goods which presented major price increases were those of final consumption, 8,5% followed by construction materials 7.4%, raw materials 5.8 % and capital goods 5.7%.
