On September 2001, the inflation measured as the Consumer Price Index (CPI) registered a value of 7.0% during the year, 0.8 percentage points lower than the inflation observed in the same period of the previous year. Additionally, the annual inflation decreased in 1.2 percentage points, and stood in September 2001, at 8.0%. The annual growth of the CPI is explained principally by the rise in the prices of: food (10.6%), transport (9.8%), housing (3.8%) and other expenses (8.9%), groups of goods and services explain 80,2% of the total variation of the indicator. On the other hand, the Producer Price Index (PPI) presented an annual growth of 8.0%, 4.9 percentage points lower than the observed in the previous year. This increase is principally due to the increase in the manufacturing industry prices (8.5%), which contributed with 82.0% of the total annual variation of the index. The agricultural product prices increased 6.8% in the year and those of mining industry 3.4%. According to the goods origin, the quotes of goods produced and consumed in the country registered an annual variation of 9.1% and the imported 4.8%. According to the economic destiny, the goods which presented major annual variation, were construction materials 9.6% followed by raw materials 8.6%, final consumption 7.9% and capitals goods 5.0%.
