Consumer and
producer price indices


The annual inflation in September of 2000 measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 9.2%, 0.1 percentage points lower than the one registered in September 1999. The sectors that presented an annual increase over the average were transportation (17.2%), other expenditures (15.0%), and health (10.0%). The sectors with the largest increases were clothing 2.9%, housing 5.8% and food 8.2%. The annual variation of the producer price index (PPI) stood at 12.9%, where mining and agricultural goods presented the largest annual price increases, 32.2% and 12.6% respectively. Industrial goods registered a 12.5% annual variation. By origin, imported goods prices grew by 12.4% while national goods grew by 13.1%. By economic use and allocation, PPI annual variations were capital goods 11.7%, final goods 13.3%, raw materials 12.8%, and construction materials 13.3%.
