Money growth
At the end of the first quarter of
1999, the money supply was Col. $8,712 billion, 1,7% lower than a year before. This is
explained by a significant reduction in the current account deposits, 14.5% and by the
increase of cash holdings 20.4%. During 1999, the reduction in the money supply is 17.2%,
as a result of falling current account deposits and currency holdings, 18.9% and 15.0%
respectively.
