Unemployment rate
According to the National Household
Survey of the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), the unemployment
rate for the seven metropolitan areas was 19.8% in June 1999. Between June 1998 and June
1999 the unemployment rate grew by 3.9 percentage points, the global participation rate
increase 0.1 points from 62.7% to 62.8%, and the occupation rate decreased 2.4 points from
52.8% to 50.4%. During the year the number of occupied persons for the seven metropolitan
areas decreased by 123,717, while the unemployed population increased by 297,520. On the
other hand, comparing June 1999 and June 1998, the economically active population for the
seven metropolitan areas grew by 2.6% (173,803 persons).
